Shopify Operations
Shopify operation lanes for Omni, with each capability labelled by safety and live-test status.
Overview
Shopify Operations is the practical map of what Omni can safely use, prepare or validate once your Shopify store is connected. It covers customer support, order work, SEO, product content, metafields, audits, theme drafts, checkout ideas and migration planning.
The rule is simple: public claims must match proof. Existing Shopify support and order reads are public-safe. On 2026-06-16, the current Shopify operation lanes were certified against the connected test shop for their safe mode: preview-only, read-only, or one narrow confirmed metafield write with read-back and cleanup.
That does not make every Shopify idea a live automation. Theme writes, checkout deployment, app patching, email automation publishing and migration execution still stay manual-review until rollback and read-back paths exist.
Capability map
Capability Current public status What Omni should do now Order support and returns live + approval-required Looks up orders, checks tracking, supports returns and queues sensitive actions for approval. Bulk SEO test-shop verified preview-only Proposes old/new titles, SEO titles, meta descriptions and intro copy. Bulk product-page writes are still not marketed as live. Liquid section drafts test-shop verified preview-only Generates Liquid, CSS and schema drafts with validation notes for manual review. Competitor gap rewrites test-shop product read + public-page fetch verified; preview-only Compares public pages with selected products and drafts cited product-page rewrites. Metafield updates narrow confirmed-write test-shop verified Previews old/new metafield values, writes only after explicit confirmation, re-reads Shopify, and cleans up test-created values. Scaled batch UX remains approval-led. Checkout upsell blocks test-shop verified preview-only Drafts checkout offer specs, test notes and rollback requirements. App conflict diagnostics test-shop storefront fetch verified; preview-only Reviews bounded storefront evidence, script URLs, console errors and observations to diagnose conflicts. Post-purchase flows test-shop paid-order read verified; preview-only Uses non-PII paid-order patterns to draft provider-neutral email sequences. It does not return recipient lists or send email. A/B copy variants test-shop verified preview-only Ranks selected products and drafts three hero-copy variants per product. Weekly store audit test-shop verified read-only lane Checks a capped product sample for SEO gaps, image issues, publishing gaps, low stock and missing variant SKUs. Broader scheduled audits still need their own certification. Migration plans preview-only Produces backup, freeze, dry-run, checksum, read-back and rollback plans. It does not run scripts. What you can ask
- "Audit my Shopify catalog for SEO and image issues."
- "Preview better SEO titles for my top products."
- "Prepare a size guide metafield preview for these products, but do not write it yet."
- "Draft a Liquid section for a product comparison block."
- "Compare these competitor pages and show the gaps in our product pages."
- "Plan a migration from this app without touching the live store."
Safety statuses
live means Omni can fetch Shopify data and report back without changing the store.
approval-required means Omni prepares the change, then waits before a supported write.
confirmed-write means a narrow write lane has a recorded test-shop run proving the exact old/new preview, capped apply, Shopify read-back and cleanup. Today that applies to a one-product metafield update path, not to theme, checkout, script or migration work.
preview-only means Omni can draft, diagnose or plan, but it does not write to Shopify.
Manual review means the work needs backup, read-back or rollback before Omni should ever automate it.
What stays manual for now
Theme writes, checkout deployment, app patching, email automation publishing and migration execution all stay manual-review until the rollback path is proven. That is deliberate. A fast draft is useful. A silent live-store change is not.
Live-test rule
Do not describe an advanced Shopify operation as live or production-ready unless the PR, release note or test record includes the connected test-shop run, expected output, approval behaviour, Shopify read-back and cleanup result. The 2026-06-16 run certified the current safe modes only: previews, reads and one reversible metafield write.
